Happenings That Presaged Feminism



          Throughout history, women were object for confinement to the domestic sphere. They were denied the right to own property, to participate in public life, they were compelled to cover heads in public, and in some parts of the world not until after 19th century,  husbands had the right to sell his wife. Down to early 20th century, women could neither vote nor hold any public office, women were prevented from conducting business without a male representative, be it a father, brother, husband, legal agent or even a son(still happen in some part of Nigeria), married women did not have any right over their own children. They own no opinion that matters over their body,.... rape, forceful genital mutilation, sexual harassment and molestation were treated  as no crime.

    Women had no access to education(except for the elites) and were barred from most professions. In some parts of the world, such restrictions goes on even to this day.

       
            Brief Historical Background

       FEMINISM can be traced back  to the 3rd Century BCE as the earliest organized protest against unfairness on the rights of women. Roman women filled the Capitoline Hill and blocked every entrance to the forum when Consul Marcus Porcuis Cato resisted attempts to repeal laws limiting *''women's use of expensive goods''*.

           
                 Truth About Feminism


FEMINISM according to Merriam Webster is the belief that men and women should have equal social, political and economic rights and opportunities. Its about the equality for both men and women. True Feminism is the recognition of the dynamics that each person brings to the table. 'Each Person' irrespective of gender. Feminism is a movement hoping to address the age long gender biased rules, laws and activities which only strives to stamped the rights of  women not just as a gender or sex now, but as a 'human' too.

*'Feminism'* is such a controversial word because people alter the meaning to suit their different interests. In its misconstrued version, people tend to view feminism as 'hate for men' or as a lesbians.

Feminism is not Misandry(hate for men) neither is it a cult of female gays. The twisted version of feminism seems to be version those who refuse to educate themselves of the concept grabs easily. Feminism in it's truer sense frowns at attack on the men......... the concept knows no sex rather fights for a course that allows both sexes function equally and mutually in political arena, business arena and social arena.

However, for some of us who choose to disassociate our selves from the concept due the altered meaning we know, this campaign which has span for centuries now has succeeded in achieving if not all but most of the core objectives from inception.

As a lady, did you ever go to school?

Did you ever choose your profession without interference?

Do you cast votes?

Have you ever contested for a public position before?

Have you ever been a lead team member amongst other male counterparts?

Have you ever being independent of your choices esp. of your partner and your body?

If ever 'Yes' to the above personal questions, then you're a feminist'.

As a man,

If you have ever sat with a female child as classmates,

you've ever had female course rep,

you've ever supported a female contesting for a public office,

you've ever had a female boss,

you've ever had a girl score higher than you in a test or come first in class result,

if you've ever respected a woman's decision concerning sexual pleasure,

if you've ever encouraged a female child to do more,

if ever taught a class comprising of a female child,

if you've ever supported a girl child education in anyway,...

You did all these without any known protest.......?

.....then you're a Feminist.





        Effects on Family and Society Life.




          What exactly can we say Feminism has done to our family and society?

Negative impact?
Then I would say you're yet to understand what Feminism is.

Feminism brought about partnership instead of master-servant relationship. Marriages of today has different things that works for them.
Feminism is not disrespect,
Feminism is not nagging
Feminism is not bitterness
Feminism is not laziness
Feminism is not lack of tolerance
Feminism is not bad cooking
Feminism is not divorce
Neither is feminism negligence of daughter, wife and mother roles.

Feminism is fairness in it's totality.

     When there's an educated wife you're sure of a modest family, she doesn't just help in training a better version of boys and girls who will grow to learn how to respect each other irrespective of gender, but she keeps contributing to the family in all round..... She is the manager even as she brings her lot to the table not leaving all responsibility on the man's shoulder.
When they're greater emancipated minds(children), we tend to have a saner society.........free of social vices.

True Feminism in today's family has birthed progressive partners and most tolerant, and more vibrant stars in the female child causing for a more rapid economic opportunities and fair competition between both sexes in the outside realm. Feminism in families today has contributed immensely to the global growing economy like never before.

It's a very remarkable thing that calls for deep reflection on the concept of *Feminism* and it's impact on the society in general....... It started in the (her) family. What ever that goes on the family reflects on the society......Because family is a unit part of the society.

When you as a man turns her to your punching bag ,
When you devalue her in the presence of your friends,
When you forcefully penetrate her as your wife,
When you refuses her from going to school,
When you stop her from working,
When you throw her out from home for every little misunderstanding,
You flirt without remorse,
You can't provide for your family,

And then she makes an attempt to speak up...

Then you call it the vices of  *'Feminism'*

Ma.....

When you keep being intolerable of your spouse,
You disrespect him,
You nag
You're dirty
You're lazy
You flirt without remorse
You contribute nothing to the table yet you want to be heard....

.....Just know that's no feminism.

*Feminism is no bitterness*
Feminism recognises strength, discipline, tolerance, respect, etc


Feminism fights for equal respect of both sexes by both sexes.


     When couples fail to apply what works for them, and a marriage goes south..... 'Feminism wasn't the cause'

Feminism in the broader view has triggered democracy in all ramifications and fastened development.

Women are now allowed to school, they are not barred from any profession, they are allowed to vote and be voted for, they work and get paid, they can be team leaders.....they have so much to bring to the table E.g The Remarkable Ngozi Okonji Iwuala.

The society can attest the rare potential embedded in women. Their ingenuity in solving problems, their compassion and empathy as a mother comes in play during decision making. Society has seen how indispensable women are as the worldh economy is on the rise.

Feminism has effected  rapid development, democracy and fast growing economy around the world.
